The Times says
To our readers
From the first issue of the Irad Times, Thursday 11 April 1996, 12 pages, 2 som.
This is a newspaper made by people who used to make television. Most of us worked at IradOne until this winter. We left because we were asked, during the campaign for Governor, to read out what we were given and to leave out what we had found. We would rather print what we find.
The Irad Times will come out every Thursday. It will be written in English, as the laws and the contracts of this territory are written, so that the people who sign them can read what we say about them, and so that anyone abroad who wants to know what is happening in Irad can find out from Iradis. We will publish in Iradi when we can afford to.
We will not be the biggest paper in Talas. The Herald is a good newspaper and we hope it stays one. We intend to be the paper that reads the documents: the budgets, the licences, the court files, the minutes of the Legislature’s committees and the registers of companies. Most of what the powerful do is written down somewhere. Our job is to find where.
We have no owner but ourselves and the people who lent us the money for a second-hand press. We will take advertising from anyone who will pay for it, and we expect that some will not.
If you have a document that the public should see, bring it to us. Our office is on the second floor of the old printing house on Printers’ Lane. The door is open on Wednesdays until the paper goes to press.
